EQUAL

Equal is a video work and the result of a collaboration between me and visual artist Katrien Oosterlinck, who share a fascination for spontaneous play and the expressive power of visual language. We are both driven by a strong social conscience, are dedicated to giving voice to those who are often unheard, using experiential and imaginative storytelling methods.

Commissioned by Centrum West in Molenbeek, Equal involved young people from Brussels, offering them a safe and creative space to explore and share personal stories through sandplay, theater, and body movement exercises. Katrien guided participants with theater and composition exercises, creating a play zone for expression through body language and visual cues. I documented the process and conducted interviews in a documentary style, allowing personal narratives to unfold within an abstract setting.

Through nonverbal exercises, participants could express complex emotions intuitively, revealing experiences beyond words. The resulting video captures the power of play as a means of self-expression, illustrating how art can foster connection and empowerment for those whose voices are not often heard in mainstream spaces.

The video was exhibited in Bozar in the frame of 'Next Generation Please'.
